Victor Appleton

-

Victor Appleton is as fictional as his stories. The first series, from which the titles below come, was mostly written by Howard R. Garis. He wrote the first 35 of the 38 book series that started with "Tom Swift and His Motor-Cycle".

The Tom Swift books were the brain child of Edward Stratemeyer (1862-1930) who served as editor and assign stories to hired writers who would work from an outline he supplied. As well as the Tom Swift series the Stratemeyer Syndicate also developed, amongst others, the Bobbsey Twins, Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series.

From the back cover of an original edition "These spirited tales convey in a realistic way, the wonderful advances in land and sea locomotion. Stories like these are impressed upon the memory and their reading is productive only of good."
